Abstract |

|
| The aim of this study is to translate the Bipolar Depression Rating Scale and reveal its psychometric properties. The study sample consists of 100 participants: a clinical sample (50) diagnosed with bipolar disorder during a depressive episode, and a non-clinical sample (50). The results indicate that the scale is able to distinguish well between the participants by using discriminatory validity. The convergent validity index is being extracted by calculating the correlation coefficient between the Beck Depression Inventory and the Young Mania Rating Scale, which indicates a good correlation between the two scales. The reliability coefficient is being found in two ways: the first is to find the reliability coefficient using the internal consistency method according to Cronbachs alpha coefficient, which has reached 0.882 for the non-clinical sample and (0.852) for the clinical sample. The second method is to use the test-retest reliability method, where the reliability coefficient has reached (0.866). The diagnostic cut-points of the scale are being examined. The cut-off points of (18) has been extracted as the best cut-off point between healthy and bipolar depression patients, with a sensitivity of (90%) and a specificity of (92%). In conclusion, the results of this study suggest that the Bipolar Depression Rating Scale has high psychometric properties in the Jordanian environment. Among the studys recommendations: conducting studies to determine the diagnostic cut-off point for the mixed symptoms dimension of the scale and conducting studies with a larger sample that includes those diagnosed with bipolar disorders of the first and second types in various episodes (mania - hypomania - depression).
