Abstract
The metaphor (majăz in Arabic) is a topic that is worthy of research and study. Many of studies conducted on it; hence, the contribution sought was through a discussion of its use by the interpreters of the Holy Quran. The importance of raising such a topic lies in shedding light on the different views of interpreters in their use of the term metaphor in order to avoid errors in interpreting the words of Allah the exalted the highest or understanding their meanings contrary to what is intended. This study aims at supplying the Qur’anic library with accurate and specialized research. The study reveals a number of results; most notably that firstly the interpreters, rhetoricians, fundamentalists began to use metaphors a long time ago, and they are still using it. Secondly, the use of metaphor by the fundamentalists is clearer because fundamentalists aimed at studying the term from the side of depth in meaning, while others want to control the word grammatically in the phenomenon without delving deeper into meaning. The interpreters’ use of metaphors varied with respect to the meaning. Scholars have studied it and dealt with it from multiple sides, from the point of view of rooting, the point of view of the fundamentalist and rhetorical aspect, and from the point of view of its use in the Holy Qur’an between permissibility and prohibition.
