Abstract
Background: Although knowledge sharing is generally signified as an ethical or voluntary act, it presents a moral dilemma for healthcare providers who are expected to share both tacit and explicit knowledge for the sustainability of the healthcare organizations. Aims: The aim of this research paper is to determine the level of knowledge-sharing behavior among the “Nursing and Midwifery Community in the Kingdom of Bahrain”, and to identify the main limitations and motivators for knowledge sharing in the era of digitalization and artificial intelligence. Methods: Based on a quantitative approach, a pilot study was conducted through surveying the “Nursing and Midwifery Community in the Kingdom of Bahrain” through an online questionnaire. Collected data was analyzed using SPSS software. Results: The data collection instrument used is valid and reliable, and the research findings illustrate that knowledge sharing is a voluntary behavior among healthcare providers, regardless of their level of knowledge and experience. The results did not show any significant difference among the means of behavior, limitations and motivators of knowledge sharing based on demographic characteristics. Conclusion: Respondents seem to be least interested in sharing knowledge to gain incentives, and they consider poor communication skills as the main limitation for knowledge sharing. This reflects the high morality and strong ethical values among the “ Nursing and Midwifery Community”. Although this community uses digital tools and online communication methods in communication, they still prefer face-to-face communication in sharing knowledge. Future studies are encouraged to adapt the questionnaire while surveying a larger sample of target respondents and investigating the feasibility of sharing knowledge in digitalization and artificial intelligence.
