The research study was conducted to determine the relationship between the trend towards physical activity and the psychological, academic and social compatibility among a sample of 100 secondary school female students in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. The sample was purposively selected from four secondary schools where physical activity is implemented. A survey questionnaire was used as an adequate tool and was divided into five main sections. Three scales were used including the scale which was used by Nawasriya published in to assess the tendency of women to exercise physical activity, the scale used by Ismael for school compatibility, and the scale of psychological and social compatibility by Hugh M. Bell which was quoted from an article published by Abdulrahman, translated into Arabic and presented by Mohammed Othman. Nijati. The SPSS software was used to determine the statistical coefficients for this study.
The results showed differences which statistically indicated a trend towards physical activity accordingly to the academic level of participants. There was an inverse relationship between the trend towards physical activity and the psychological, academic and social compatibility among the students where 50% of the sample students were keen to attend the early morning school assembly to carry out physical activity. As a result, this was immediately reflected on 51% of the sample where they were also keen to exercise at home and to favor certain physical activities. It was evident that the health awareness towards the importance of physical activity in fighting disease is elevated and that the social habits and traditions of the Saudi Arabian society were never an obstacle to carry out sport activities as exhibited by more than 60% of the sample. Regularly attending activity classes and physical activities for the purpose of socializing and forming friendships has declined possibly due to the lack of sport facilities. The study recommends and encourages official and social media to contribute in improving the positive trends towards the practice of physical activity and how it influences the psychological, academic and social compatibility.
